Big Hat No Cattle; And How to Become A Millionaire

Big Hat No Cattle; How to Become A Millionaire

Big Hat No Cattle, is a term used to describe someone who looks the part but doesn’t have the action to back it up.

If you saw either of these men on the street which one would you think is a millionaire?

Even though they are both highly successful, wealthy men, I bet you guessed the one on the right is a millionaire?  It’s actually the one on the left, David Wood. This is typical of how he looks on all his videos and speaking engagements.

Even though some sources say if you want to get rich you need to dress the part and buy expensive clothes.  Like this article from 13 Ways to Look and Act Like a Millionaire- Even if You’re Not:

“Buy one-third as many clothes as you do now, but spend three times as much on each item.” That means instead of buying multiple pairs of pants at middle-of-the-road prices, buy one pair of luxe pants and wear them everywhere.”

The reality is that most millionaires are self-employed entrepreneurs who live WELL below their means.  According to the “13 Ways” article the average price of the house of an American millionaire is 350,000.

The Engineer Millionaire I Worked With

In my own life, a few years back, I was a home health care nurse for an amazing man who was deteriorating from dementia. He had been a mechanical engineer and inventor in his life and had founded a couple of start-up companies.

I enjoyed our walks together where he would reminisce about his life when his memory would allow.

At the time I really wanted a new BMW X3 and was intrigued by how, even though he could afford several of these cars, he drove a relatively inexpensive Rav 4.  He lived in a beautiful modest home and instead spent his money on his hobbies, gadgets and collecting. He dressed well, but even in his heyday didn’t wear expensive suits

He said it was in poor taste to show off your wealth. He seemed to have a solid knowing of his place in the world and didn’t need to broadcast his wealth. I also got the impression that the money was icing on the cake. He had always followed his passion, took calculated risks and worked hard, and when it made him money he just continued to do what he loved to do on a bigger scale.

How to Become a Millionaire

And if you think you need to be born with a silver spoon, the fact is most of America’s millionaires are not trust fund babies they are first-generation rich who have had confidence in their own abilities, the discipline to work hard and live a modest life style.  You have to learn how to become a millionaire.

So if you’re thinking you want to know how to become a millionaire, there is no such thing as an instant success story. It takes a vision, discipline, guts, and hard work (blood sweat and tears) If you have a mentor, are willing to connect with people, learn as much as you can, take action, and be persistent,  you could be the next guy speaking from a stage wearing flip flops and a t-shirt!

Here is to your success!
