Facebook Advertising Tips Every Small Business Should Know

The Essential Facebook Advertising Tips for Small Businesses - Facebook, Advertising, Business

Running a small business is not an easy process. There are way too many challenges involved.

It is quite easy to get caught up in the vicious circle of stagnated growth. Over the years bigger companies have bullied smaller companies with their huge supplies of capital for marketing.

Things are now quickly changing, thanks to Facebook Advertising.  A platform that allows small businesses access to tools such as targeted marketing that could only be accessed by larger corporations in the past.

With Facebook advertising, starting and growing a small business has never been easier.  With over 2.32 billion users, Facebook is arguably one of the best platforms for small business advertising.

Any business of any size can leverage the platform’s huge collection of data to both sell products and services and promote brand awareness.

However, to effectively utilize this ultimately powerful marketing platform, you need to acquire the right knowledge of the best Facebook advertising tips for small businesses.

That is what I will be sharing with you today. I’ll provide a list of the best Facebook advertising tips you can use.

Facebook Advertising Tips for Small Business Success

Since large corporations also use Facebook as part of their marketing arsenal, small businesses have to employ different strategies to succeed. The Facebook advertising tips I share with you will ensure that you not only survive but also thrive in business.

Why All Small Businesses Should Run Facebook Ads

Before I give you my Facebook advertising tips, let’s talk about why you should do Facebook advertising.

As a small business owner, one of the things you need is a robust social media marketing plan. Facebook has to be part of that plan since it’s the most popular social media platform in the world.

In fact, any serious business in the 21st century can’t afford to forego Facebook as part of their marketing strategy.

One of the most powerful features that come with Facebook is Facebook Ads. The platform uses its huge chunks of data to run targeted Ads for its users.

1) Facebook Ads Have Powerful Targeting Mechanisms

When you use traditional forms of advertisement like TV, Radio, Newspapers, and Posters, your Ads reach a lot of people who will never be interested in what you offer.

Facebook allows you to save money by charging you only for serving ads to people who are likely to be interested in your products and services. As a result, your business gets a better return on investment from running Facebook Ads than any other form of advertising.

The best thing is that you will be the one in control of setting your target audience. Facebook ad targeting is very powerful. Imagine having the power to target your potential customers based on age, language, location, and devices.

With Facebook Ads, you can also target potential customers through lookalike audiences of the members of your email list.

If you are getting a lot of website traffic and not enough conversions, Facebook has the perfect solution.

Research suggests that millions are lost in revenue every because of unfinished checkouts. The Facebook Pixel will remind your website visitors about their unfinished checkouts.

2) Tracking Your Facebook Ads Performance

Another major problem with traditional forms of advertising is that it can be hard to measure the effectiveness and success of marketing campaigns.

Facebook, on the other hand, allows you to assess the performance of your ad campaigns very clearly.

You can turn off, turn on and run multiple Facebook Ad campaigns all at the same time.

The platform’s clear reporting system allows you to get valuable metrics such as the number of views and clicks. Others include:

  •         Cost per action,
  •         Reach,
  •         Click-through rate (CTR), and
  •         Total spend.

Technically, this is one of my own Facebook advertising tips for beginners too. That’s because it can make such a difference to your campaign.

Since you now have some basic understanding of what Facebook Ads are and how they work, let’s dive into the Facebook Advertising tips.

Tip 1: Targeting the Right Audience

Imagine having the ability to make Ads that target only people who use smartphones when you are a small business selling mobile apps.

Or what if you were the owner of an apparel store for women? Would you like to waste your time advertising to young boys?

Of course not! You want women or men who could be buying for their loved ones.  Maybe just those from 18 to 25, because you sell apparel for young women.

So here’s the first item in my list of Facebook advertising tips: learn how to target audiences.

With Facebook Ads, always try to be as specific as you can be to achieve the best results. Take your time to think of what your ideal customer is before running Ads on Facebook.

Skipping this step has cost companies millions, and you don’t want to be one of them, right?

Tip 2: Create Landing Pages That Convert

So you have successfully run an Ad on Facebook that brings you tons of traffic to your site but hardly any conversions. Does this mean that Facebook Ads don’t work?

Definitely not. It’s probably because of your landing page — which brings us to the next one of my Facebook advertising tips.

Your landing page has a lot to do with a successful campaign.  You need to make sure it is optimized and convincing enough for the visitor to click the buy button or sign up button (whatever that is).

You only have a few seconds to impress someone who has clicked through your ad from Facebook. This can be done through the use of proven visual elements and copywriting.

Do not distract your visitor with lots of unnecessary bells and whistles. Your goal here is to get them to click the button, not showcase design.

Tip 3: Use Relevant and Engaging Images

Here’s another of my Facebook advertising tips: use good images.

This is usually included in lists of Facebook advertising tips because images tend to perform much better than text posts. This doesn’t mean that it’s okay for you to choose any stock photo from Pixabay and shove it in, however.

You need to find something that is not only relevant but also engaging to your targeted audience.

Use sites like Canva and Pablo to create your images in minutes. If you have the time and resources custom images from Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop will be an awesome choice.

Be careful not to use a lot of text in your images. This could negatively affect the number of people your Ad reaches. Facebook itself will not approve of an image Ad with plenty of text.

Tip 4: Leverage the Power of Video Ads

The next one of our Facebook advertising tips is another type of visual media.

If you are on multiple social media platforms, you might have noticed the rise of Video over all other forms of Ads.

Video is believed to be the future, especially with the statistics showing that Youtube is now the second largest search engine in the world.

The same thing is happening on Facebook. Lots of your potential customers prefer video Ads now.

These Ads tend to perform much better than all the others, so you would have to be nuts to not to use them.

Relevance is still important in Video Ads. If you would like to make an awesome Video Ad in a few minutes, Animoto is your best bet. Short videos of less than two minutes tend to work best.

A lot of people watch Facebook videos muted, so you need to add in some text. You should still have relevant sounds and music in your Video Ads, though.
