“Learn To Trust and Follow Your Intuition” written by Guest Contributor.
Have you ever wished you had followed your intuition?
You may have had a nagging feeling to do one thing, but you decided or reasoned against it. Then after seeing the result, you wished you had followed your intuition instead.
That’s why today I want to talk about learning to trust and follow your intuition.
Trust and Follow Your Intuition
I was coming back to Cincinnati from a trip to Indiana to visit some friends and put my home address into my Google Map App so that I could tell how many miles I had left.
I pretty much know the route so was surprised to have it take me a different way than usual.
It had me veering off on a secondary highway 275 instead of what I knew was a straight shot on highway 71. So I re-entered my address and again it still had me taking an alternate route.
I thought I knew better than Siri so I just went the straight shot like I normally would only to hit bumper-to-bumper traffic for about 5 miles. 🙁
The Siri Analogy for Life
This reminded me of an analogy for life. Siri and Google Map are like accessing our sub-conscious mind through intuition. Our subconscious mind knows the bigger picture. It knows the the bumps and setbacks and either we refuse to listen or we think we know what’s best. When in reality we can’t consciously know every detail of our life and how it will turn out.
Without accessing our intuition we are relying on only what we know on a conscious level. Your subconscious mind is like accessing a super-computer with 40 million bits of data per second, whereas the conscious mind processes at only 40 bits per second.
Have you ever make a decision knowing that your higher power was telling you not to do it?
Have you ever thought you knew what was best and didn’t need to follow your intuition?
Just like my situation with the traffic jam not listening to it can slow down or even derail your success.
What is Intuition and Why Should You Follow It?
Albert Einstein once said that it is our most valuable asset, and one of our most unused senses. He described it as “a feeling for the order lying behind the appearance of something.” Sometimes it is referred to as gut feeling, sixth sense, innate wisdom, inner sense, instinct, inner voice, or spiritual guide.
Whatever word you use it’s an important part of success in any area of your life.
How to Access Your Intuition
If you’re not sure how to access your intuition, Lindsay Lewis from Mindbodygreen says to close your eyes and remember a specific instance or multiple instances when you felt very certain—especially if you didn’t quite know why you felt that way.
Dive deep into these memories, noticing everything about them. What do you see, hear, feel, taste, touch? Now shift your awareness to your physical sensations. As you sit with these memories, what do you feel in your body? Scan from your head, through your shoulders, into your arms, down your torso, into your stomach, your hips, through your legs, and into your feet.
Note every physical sensation. Remember that we’re looking for physical sensations here, not emotions. Get very specific about what you feel in your body. Once you remember this then you will be able to access it as needed
More Tips On How to Follow Your Intuition
Here are a few more tips on accessing your intuition:
Meditation. It’s important to quiet the chatter in order to hear. If I’d had music blaring in the car or been distracted I wouldn’t have been able to HEAR where I needed to go. Take some time every day to sit quietly with out distraction and listen.
Ask guidance. Ask a specific question for your life or just to generally be guided throughout the day.
Be aware of signs. They can be a way of communication. Some people see numbers like 11:11 and some will see a word on a billboard that is significant. All of those synchronistic events have meaning and the more you are aware of them the more it will happen.
Listen to your gut. We all get impressions of people and things. Some makes you feel calm and at peace and something’s make you feel jittery and anxious. Listen to your “gut brain.” It will never steer you wrong
